Paris is one of the easiest major cities to get around in, primarily because of the Metro. Paris Metro The Metro is a model of efficient public transportation. The Metro’s first line was completed in 1900, and today it carries over 6 million people per
day. It is likely that you will rely on the Metro for travel in Paris more than any other means of transportation. Paris taxis, like taxis in most large cities, are often hard to find and can be expensive. However, there may be times when you will want a taxi to travel in Paris, such as after 1 a.m. when there are only occasional night buses. Paris Rental Cars If you are thinking of renting a car to travel in Paris, be aware that traffic in Paris is generally heavy and driving is slow. Nevertheless, many people find a need to rent a car in Paris. Of course, if you want to tour the countryside or visit several sights outside Paris a rental car can be the way to go.
Walking in Paris Although some brave tourists take off on their own and enjoy the surprises they find by walking Paris streets, many tourists who like to walk choose some type of planned walking tours. Paris Passes If you are going to be in Paris more that one day, you will want to get one or more Paris travel passes. With a travel pass, you can travel anywhere within Paris and its region on the Metro, bus or RER rail system. In addition, it is easy and convenient to travel to Disneyland and the two airports near Paris. With a Paris travel pass, you also get discounted entrance fees to some museums, art shows and more. Travel passes are available for 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days. Paris Arrondissements Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, or districts. Knowledge of the arrondissements of Paris will help you in navigating the city, help you choose an accomodation in an area you like and give you a sense of community.
